Aftercare is a collaborative work that uses used baby wipes to explore the unseen labour of care. Through the repeated acts of washing, folding, and tying, the artists transform everyday remnants of cleaning into records of daily maintenance.

The gestures used to prepare the materials mirror the gestures of care themselves. By repeating these movements in the studio, the artists draw attention to how meaning is built through routine, touch, and time rather than through dramatic or visible actions.

The work invites viewers to slow down and look closely at what is usually discarded. By preserving and arranging these wipes, the artists shift attention to the quiet processes that support everyday life. What is thrown away becomes something to be seen and contemplated.

What surprised you when you allowed yourself to start with play?

When we started with play, we discovered that we do not always need a big idea or a clear end goal. We play, we fail, and discover new possibilities. Some days are a win and some days are a loss. That is the beauty of play. It is about staying curious, enjoying the process, and loving the challenge.

What is one play hack you would like to share to help fellow teacher-artists experiment and create without expectations?

One play hack we would like to share is to embrace failure and be open to the perspectives of others. We often overthink and become overly critical of our own work, but others can offer fresh and unexpected insights into our process.
