Possible Guiding Questions for Discussing Art

Possible lesson ideas for Making Art

  1. Look at this work for a moment. What observations can you make about it? Describe the lines, choice of colours and arrangement.
  1. What does this work remind you of? Why do you say that?
  1. What are the various materials used in this artwork? How do you think the artist made this work?
  1. What questions would you ask the artist about this work if she was here?
  1. If you have an opportunity to rearrange the various parts of this work, how would you go about doing it? What are some of your concerns in determining your arrangement?
In this lesson idea, students could be asked to create documentation (visual/audio) and/or to collect artefacts of their encounters and experiences.

For example: daily routine, people they come into contact with everyday, foods that they eat, etc.

The teacher could then facilitate a discussion on how a mix of sensory impressions helped shaped our daily experiences. Students could also reflect upon how they have been impacted by the different encounters with various people.

A possible elegant art task could be:

Create a 1-min short film in which you reflect on a memorable person/event in your life. You are encouraged to think about the use of visuals and audio in your film and the possible display of other artefacts in the final presentation.
