Anisah Bte Salim // Coral Primary School // Newspaper Weaving // 150cm by 150cm

The art of weaving is one of the oldest suviving crafts in the world. The tradition of weaving traces back to approximately 12,000 years ago. I have been using recycled materials in my art-making and teaching. When I saw the work of Danish artist, Gugger Petter, who uses newspaper and prints for his weaving of portraits, I was inspired to try the technique.

Every so often, the image of a blue haired lady comes to my mind whenever I’m in deep thoughts. She comes to me in my day dreams, paintings, imagination and wonders. There is a personal connection that I feel so strongly with her. The missing branch in my family tree could be the link. Who is this lady? Why her? What is she trying to tell me?
