2015, Lightbox assemblage, 198cm x 165cm x 10cm

By CLIFFORD CHUA KOK YONG, Palm View Primary School

I draw because there are too many ideas floating in my head; each voice crying out for release.

I draw to free my mind from the clutter of the mundane and the humdrum of daily living that anaesthetises and numbs our inner world, the seat of the soul.

I draw the visible and the invisible in order to make sense of life, of the world, of humanity … and to hold them up as mirrors for our contemplation.

I draw for the same reason I breathe, to remind myself that I’m alive and that the self is important, unique and of immerse value.
