Often, we brush aside topics like mental health for the lack of effort in understanding its importance and the manner it could take a toll on an individual if left unattended for long periods.

The state of mind thus becomes the driving force behind this work as I deep dive on the correlation of a person’s mood and its effect on their thoughts and behaviour. The art work revolves around affirmation-based visual representations in the form of shapes, colours and phrases that closely expresses feelings and emotions. These are invisible things in our mind which we sometimes have little control over. A journey is formed as our mind explores a multitude of reactions towards unfolding scenarios and sometimes negativity beckons due to the lack of affirmation. This work was meant to help people feel valid, safe and select their choice of comfort through different touch points in their state of mind.

Fithriyani (b.1996) graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) where she honed her skills in contemporary art coupled with research methodologies and theoretical knowledge. Thereafter, she embarked on a journey as an educator with a commitment towards fostering a sense of creativity, self-expression and wonder among the young.

Away from work, she enjoys an adventurous day out to help refuel her tank of inspiration and keep her creative senses sharp. At the same time, she advocates slow living for a more balanced and meaningful life centred around appreciating the small things in life. She truly believes art can heal and empower oneself as well as provide an avenue for expression without restrictions and boundaries.
