2015, Joss Paper burner, stack of envelopes, matches, Dimensions Vairable

By ONG HUI SAN EILEEN, Northbrooks Secondary School

This artwork is created in memory of Jone Low, my good friend since Primary 1. Four years ago, she died a sudden death in a boating accident near Mersing. I was in a state of shock upon watching the news that night and had sleepless nights.

Losing a close childhood friend is a very painful process. We used to play together, laugh together and share secrets…

In the hope of reconnecting with her, I started to write letters… the act of writing these letters became a healing process for me; a balm for my soul and a way to overcome the grief…

My intention of burning these letters is to dematerialise them so that she can receive them in the other world…
