A deconstruction of the idiomatic expression “wearing many hats”, this body of work explores the notion of having different roles to play.
A mother.
A wife.
A daughter.
A friend.
A teacher.
A colleague.
And who?
Themes from these roles are combined into collages that feature mundane domestic objects being whitewashed, juxtaposed with whimsical objects, and embellished with stencilled text. The whitewash establishes a dream-like surreal quality, suggesting notions of absence and nostalgia, and formally unifying the disparate objects in each frame. The texts provide clues to the content and interpretation.
