The activity should serve to train a student to become a sharper observer and to realise the endless possibilities in art-making.
Created by Mdm Gan Ai Lee, Zoom-in Thinking Routine is an activity designed for teachers to carry out with their students. The activity begins with the students having a fixed amount of time to roam around the aedge 2018 exhibition gallery to view the works. They are tasked to take a close-up picture of a certain part of an artwork that intrigued them or caught their eye. The students will then gather back together to share with the class about the one image they had found the most interesting. Teachers may choose to have the class respond to the student presenting (with the questions they have etc) or may request for the student presenting to reveal the questions he/she may have had.
Teachers are highly encouraged to then curate an album of students’ images from the gallery visit and add it onto the aedge facebook page for all to view and learn as well!
Help refine students’ observational and critical thinking skills by prompting them with questions such as:
- What do you see?
- What might it be?
Ask students to reveal what questions they might have had the moment the full image was revealed. What is as they had imagined or was it completely different from what they had thought it would be?
